On December 5th and 6th, Francine Vis, mezzo soprano, and Christian Westergaard, piano, gave a concert with German and Danish songs in Christians Kirke, Copenhagen and in ManziusLIve, Birkerød. The concerts were organised by Kammermusikforeningen and Bikrerød Kammermusikforening.
The program was a mix of some of the most famous German Lieder, like Mahler's Rücker-Lieder and Brahm´s Zigeurnerlieder, but also included unknown song highlights like Korngold' s Lieder des Abschieds or the Danish songs "Gudruns sorg", which the two artists have recorded a few weeks ago.
After having heard Francine Vis with Dowland, Händel or Charpentier, I was quite impressed to heard her sing the late romantic songs as impressive as the baroque music and without any accent in German and Danish. Her partner, Christian Westergaard, whom I heard for the first time, was the perfect partner and played these songs fantastic.
During the rehearsal in Christians Kirke, I could take photos on stage, something you cannot do during a concert.
Songs are teamwork
